The Healthy Chinese-style rolls

The Healthy Chinese-style rolls recipe is a delicious combination of ground pork, shrimp, water chestnuts, and flavorful spices, all wrapped up in a crispy spring roll wrapper and fried until golden brown. Ingredients:

  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/4 cup chopped water chestnuts
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 package spring roll wrappers
  • Oil for frying

 

Instructions:

 

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground pork, shrimp, water chestnuts, green onions, cilantro, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Lay out a spring roll wrapper on a flat surface, with one corner facing towards you. 
  3. Spoon about 1-2 tablespoons of the filling mixture onto the bottom corner of the wrapper, leaving about 1/2 inch of space on either side.
  4. Fold the bottom corner up and over the filling, tucking it in tightly to form a roll.
  5. Fold in the sides of the wrapper towards the center, then continue rolling up the wrapper tightly. 
  6. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling mixture. 
  7. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F.
  8. Carefully add the spring rolls to the hot oil, frying in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.
  9. Remove the spring rolls from the oil with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain the excess oil.
  10. Serve the spring rolls hot with sweet and sour sauce or soy sauce for dipping.
