Gathia recipe
Gathia is a popular
Indian snack made from chickpea flour. Here's a recipe for homemade gathia:
Ingredients:
1.
2 cups chickpea
flour (also known as besan or gram flour)
2.
1/2 teaspoon
ajwain (carom seeds)
3.
1/2 teaspoon
cumin seeds
4.
1/2 teaspoon
turmeric powder
5.
1/2 teaspoon red
chili powder (adjust to taste)
6.
1/2 teaspoon
salt (or to taste)
7.
1/4 cup water (or
as needed)
8.
2 tablespoons
oil
9.
Oil for deep
frying
Instructions:
In a large mixing bowl,
add chickpea flour, ajwain, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and
salt. Mix well.
Add 2 tablespoons of
oil and mix until the mixture becomes crumbly.
Slowly add water, a
little at a time, and knead the mixture until it forms a smooth and firm dough.
Heat oil for deep
frying in a heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat.
Divide the dough into
2-3 portions and roll each portion into a long, thin rope.
Carefully drop the
ropes into the hot oil, and fry until the gathia turns golden brown and crisp.
Flip the gathia occasionally to ensure even frying.
Once cooked, remove the
gathia from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined
plate to drain any excess oil.
Allow the gathia to
cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.
Your homemade gathia is
now ready to be enjoyed as a snack or as a crispy topping for chaat or yogurt.
