Dhokla Enjoy a Healthy and Delicious
Dhokla is a popular
traditional Gujarati dish made from a fermented batter of rice and split chickpeas.
It is often served as a snack or breakfast dish and is known for its tangy and
spicy flavor.

nutritious dish that's perfect for breakfast, snacks, or light dinners.
Ingredients:
a)
1 cup of gram
flour (besan)
b)
1/4 cup of
semolina (rava or sooji)
c)
1/2 cup of
yogurt
d)
1 tsp of ginger
paste
e)
1 tsp of green
chili paste
f)
1/2 tsp of
turmeric powder
g)
1/2 tsp of
baking soda
h)
1 tbsp of lemon
juice
i)
Salt to taste
j)
1 tbsp of oil
k)
1 tsp of mustard
seeds
l)
1 tsp of sesame
seeds
m)
A pinch of
asafoetida (hing)
n)
A handful of
chopped coriander leaves
o)
Grated coconut
(optional)
p)
Water as
required
Instructions:
1)
In a mixing
bowl, add 1 cup of gram flour, 1/4 cup of semolina, and salt to taste. Mix
well.
2)
Add 1/2 cup of
yogurt and water as required to make a smooth batter. The consistency should be
like pancake batter.
3)
Cover the bowl
and let the batter rest for 3-4 hours in a warm place or overnight.
4)
After 3-4 hours,
add 1 tsp of ginger paste, 1 tsp of green chili paste, and 1/2 tsp of turmeric
powder, and mix well.
5)
Now, add 1/2 tsp
of baking soda, and 1 tbsp of lemon juice and mix well. The batter will become
frothy.
6)
Grease a
steaming tray or a thali with oil.
7)
Pour the batter
into the tray and steam for 10-12 minutes or until the dhokla is cooked.
8)
Once done, let
it cool for a few minutes and cut the dhokla into desired shapes.
9)
For tempering,
heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan and add 1 tsp of mustard seeds, 1 tsp of sesame
seeds, and a pinch of asafoetida. Let them splutter.
10) Pour this tempering over the dhokla and garnish with
chopped coriander leaves and grated coconut.
Your dhokla is ready to
serve.
Enjoy it with green chutney or tamarind
chutney.
